Mesa woman’s unique challenge honors brother who died of heat exposure
Amanda Ferguson is pledging to drink 100 ounces of water for 100 days this summer to raise money and spread awareness that no one is immune from the extreme heat, not even young, healthy people who’ve lived in the Valley for years.

In 2011, tragedy struck on Camelback Mountain. That year, a healthy, 25-year-old man fell 50 feet and lost his life. Two years later, a beloved, 31-year-old veteran died from heat exposure while out riding dirt bikes on another Arizona trail.
